The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) was established in 1999 and it is the first of its kind in Greece. The department is situated at the city of Alexandroupolis in North-Eastern Greece and belongs to Democritus University of Thrace.

Our vision is to contribute decisively in advancing molecular biology, genetics and biomedical research in Greece and to disseminate advanced knowledge on these subjects to students.
MBG graduates usually develop careers in basic research - both in Greece and internationally - teach, or engage professionally in the biotechnological and biomedicinal sector.

The faculty are committed to maintaining a strong undergraduate curriculum on diverse aspects of molecular biology and genetics, as well as pursuing scientific research.
